On the eve of the Standard main event here at the MKM Series Milan 2017, we decided to take a look at what happened before. Sixteen weeks ago, players from all over Europe gathered in Prague for the fifth and final stop of the MKM Series 2017, including 73 stars of Standard …

Deck of the Tournament

Aetherworks Marvel had evolved. The deck no longer was a strict combo strategy hellbent on cheating an otherwise uncastable Eldrazi titan onto the stack/battlefield. Nowadays, the deck incorporated more midrange threats, planeswalkers like Liliana, the Last Hope or Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Ishkanah, Grafwidow. This new breed of Aetherworks Marvel decks was piloted just by five players in the tournament, but two of them made the Top 4!

Match of the Tournament

In the quarterfinals, Grand Prix finalist Jan Ksandr met Grand Prix champion Amand Dosimont. The two had faced each other before, in Round 5 of the event, but weren't able to decide a winner then before time ran out. Naturally, the battle between Black-Green Delirium and Aetherworks Marvel was brutal, with several high-power plays on either side. And one thing was certain: This rematch wouldn't end in a draw; Ksandr and his Aetherworks Marvel deck triumphed yet!

Notable Finishes

Jan Ksandr finally got a winner's trophy this weekend. He would go on to even higher glories, placing in the Top 8 at Pro Tour Aether Revolt. Lithuanian Arturas Simaitis, meanwhile, made his second Top 8 and secured a spot at next year's Super Finals. And two-time MKM Series champion Eliott Boussaud even ended the season in first place on the leaderboards thanks to his Top 4 finish!

Top 4 finishers Eliott Boussaud, Dominik Prosek, Jan Ksandr, and Jiří Obraz
