Modern was the only one of the weekend's four main event formats which didn't receive a major shake-up through bannings or restrictions earlier in the week. But maybe Magic‘s latest set, released just a day prior, would have an effect on Modern? We asked several well-known players which Amonkhet cards they expected to play a role in the format …

Marius Hausmann, MKM Series Milan 2017 Legacy champion:As Foretold will get many Modern players brewing with Ancestral Vision/Restore Balance/Wheel of Fate.”

Anton Karlinski, MKM Series Prague 2016 champion:Soul-Scar Mage!”

Arne Huschenbeth, champion of Grand Prix Rimini 2016: “Cycling lands [Canyon Slough, Fetid Pools, Irrigated Farmland, Scattered Groves, Sheltered Thicket] and As Foretold.”

Sebastian Wibmer, Modern finalist MKM Series Frankfurt 2016: “I think that Rhonas the Indomitable and Vizier of Remedies will have the biggest impact. Looks quite broken in combination with Devoted Druid and fits right into the Abzan Company shell. Maybe the deck becomes more popular again because of it. Then there are the cycle lands, though I don't know what to make of them yet. I hope we'll soon have a solid Life from the Loam deck in Modern.”

Julian Knab, Legacy mastermind and MKM Series champion:As Foretold feels really strong. Maybe there's something that will have an even bigger impact, but judging from the games I have played against White-Blue Control on Magic Online thus far, the card could definitely be here to stay. Honorable mention to Vizier of Remedies which people are apparently trying to work into Collected Company combo decks; from what I've seen it doesn't seem to be an actual upgrade, but I'd be happy to be wrong on this.”

Tim van der Lans, Modern champion of MKM's 2015 SuperFinalsHarsh Mentor looks scary … Or maybe As Foretold?”

Rodrigo Togores, three-time MKM Series champion: “The card I expect to have the biggest impact is Vizier of Remedies. Also, all the cards with cycling could be a boon for Living End. The problem is that the deck takes so much collateral damage from all the Dredge hate.”

Mikael Lindén, two-time MKM Series Vintage champion: “To be honest, I haven't looked much at Amonkhet. With that said, I will of course trust Joel Larsson and say that Vizier of Remedies will change the format!”
