On the eve of MKM Series Prague, it was time for us to once again take a step back and review what happened so far … Thirteen weeks ago, players from all over Europe gathered in Frankfurt, Germany, for the second stop of the MKM Series in 2017, including 437 Legacy lovers.

Deck of the Tournament

With the recent banning of Sensei's Divining Top, the format had lost its only true control strategy and the metagame adapted, not entirely unexpectedly, by incorporating more fast combo.

Longtime Miracles player Johannes Gutbrod adapted best of all

Ultimately, Johannes Gutbrod's deck centered on Sneak Attack and Show and Tell was more succesful than anyone else's. And Gutbrod himself had already been our first pick for a video interview well before the Top 8.

Match of the Tournament

The final showcased the speed of the Show and Tell deck as well as the strength of Grafdigger's Cage in vanquishing the opposing Reanimator strategy. But the semifinal between Dalibor Szeghö and Walter Wölfler was even more impressive speed-wise.

Dalibor Szeghö against Walter Wölfler

This match saw Wölfler thoughtseize his opponent and exhume Iona, Shield of Emeria all on the very first turn. Then he wrapped things up quickly in the third game as he revealed two Chancellor of the Annex before he reanimated Griselbrand, again all on turn one!

Notable Finishes

Johannes Gutbrod crowned his second Legacy Top 8 at the MKM Series with his first victory. Julian Knab, meanwhile, reached the fourth MKM Top 8 of his career. He had already been among the eight (splitting) winners of the 617-player Modern tournament at MKM Series Frankfurt one year previously and had won the Legacy main event at MKM Series Milan 2016. This time, he fell in the quarterfinals of the Legacy main event, but he more than made up for it by winning the 2016 Legacy SuperFinals the very next day!

Julian Knab, on top of his game, always at least near the top of the standings
