After nine rounds plus quarter- and semifinals, only two players were left to duke it out for the title and trophy of our Legacy main event: Johannes Gutbrod who had just won the MKM Series Legacy main event in Frankfurt. And Steffen Möller piloting RUG Lands.
Both players kept their opening seven cards and Gutbrod was going first. During the early phase of the game, Möller was able to create a Marit Lage token, but Gutbrod had Monastery Mentor and Swords to Plowshares for the 20/20 token. After this aggressive attempt, Möller tried to play the control variant. With 40 points of life, Möller tried to screw Gutbrod on mana with Wasteland and Ghost Quarter in combination with Life from the Loam. Gutbrod resolved Monastery Mentor, Jace, the Mind Sculptor, and multiple cantrips. With Monastery Mentor and Monk tokens on the offense, Gutbrod was able to bring Möller down to 2 points of life. Although Glacial Chasm from Möller tried to stop the attacks the game was pretty close and Gutbrod might have won the game if he did not forget to pay the upkeep cost from The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale for his creatures. In the end, Möller was able to stabilize and win game one.
Steffen Möller took the lead 1-0
Again, Both players kept their opening seven cards and Gutbrod was going first. He started strong with Relic of Progenitus removing Life from the Loam, and Jace, the Mind Sculptor. When Möller found a second Life from the Loam, Gutbrod had Surgical Extraction. The game went on with no action left in Möller's hand and Jace, the Mind Sculptor ensuring that the top card of Möller's library was no threat for Gutbrod. Möller was able to destroy Blood Moon via Krosan Grip but Vendilion Clique from Gutbrod attacked Möller down to 8 points of life. With no big chance to find a solution Möller conceded the game.
The match was tied at 1-1
Möller was able to resolve Chalice of the Void with one counter via Ancient Tomb, but Gutbrod had Engineered Explosives for the annoying artifact and later on, Relic of Progenitus for Life from the Loam. Möller was able to screw Gutbrod on white mana with Rishadan Port for some turns, but Gutbrod was improving his game constantly. He resolved Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Monastery Mentor. Low on life, Möller had Engineered Explosives but no possibility to get three counters on the artifact. He was forced to play it for zero counters, to deal with the Monk tokens. Jace, the Mind Sculptor ensuring that the top card of Möller's library was no threat, Monastery Mentor doing the beatdown, and a freshly cast Blood Moon were too many problematic cards Möller was facing. On 3 points of life Möller offered the handshake.
Johannes Gutbrod won the game, the match with 2-1, and the tournament!
