On the eve of MKM Series Hamburg, it was time for us to once again take a step back and review what happened so far … Just seven weeks ago, players from all over Europe gathered in Prague for the third stop of the MKM Series in 2017, including 295 Legacy lovers.

Deck of the Tournament

It truly was a miracle—the resurrection of an archetype thought dead after the banning of Sensei's Divining Top. But Miracles only lay dormant for a while and had its comeback in Prague. Helped along by Ponder and Portent in addition to Brainstorm, Terminus once again proved just the spell to end all battles. Two Miracles players made it to the playoffs; one only lost to the other; that other didn't lose at all …

Match of the Tournament

The semifinal Miracles mirror pitted two recent MKM champions against each other. Just thirteen weeks prior, Kevin Wagner had won the Vintage main event at MKMS Frankfurt, while Johannes Gutbrod had become MKMS Frankfurt's Legacy champion. This clash of titans involved a lot of back and forth, as to be expected when two control decks meet. Ultimately, though, Legacy expert and Miracles master Gutbrod gained the upper hand, not least thanks to incorporating a full playset of Monastery Mentors.

Notable Finishes

Up to the semifinals—see above—two players were still in the running to become back-to-back champions. Of course, the better story was going to be a repeat victory by Johannes Gutbrod, winning two large Legacy events in a row. The narrative imperative made good on the promising set-up, as Gutbrod not only won the Miracles mirror but also the final against Lands!

Congratulations to Johannes Gutbrod, back-to-back-Legacy champion!
