Ixalan wasn't a factor at MKM Series Hamburg 2017, as the set wasn't even released yet. But it was of course one of the most discussed topics among players. We asked a number of notable players which cards from the upcoming expansion they expected to be big factors in Standard after the rotation …

Julian Knab, Legacy champion 2017 SuperFinals:Field of Ruin. With so many insanely good transform lands in the format, having something to fight them seems really important. I really hope there's gonna be a strong Dinosaur deck in the format, just for the sake of being able to tell me non-Magic friends that you can now play Dinosaurs in Magic. If the deck does actually manifest, I imagine Regisaur Alpha to be a standout card in it.”

Rodrigo Togores, three-time MKM Series champion:Revel in Riches is a card which could be played in a blue-black control deck in Standard because it's a fairly good win condition with some usefulness before.”

Justin Hayo, back-to-back MKMS Modern Top 8er : “Dinosaurs is going to be the deck to beat in my opinion. There are Kinjalli's Caller and Otepec Huntmaster and an endless number of pay-off cards. Plus, green's great for fixing, so the mana should be super. Go, go, Dinos!”

Marius Hausmann, Legacy champion MKMS Milan 2017: “As usual, I don't know much about Standard. There'll surely be some fat planeswalker or other. Not a big fan of Dinosaurs and Pirates either.”

Andreas Reling, semifinalist GP Stockholm 2016: “I'm looking forward to seeing Pirates versus Dinosaurs battling it out in the upcoming Pro Tour final. Go Dinosaurs!”

Thoralf “Toffel” Severin, Standard semifinalist MKMS Prague 2017:Carnage Tyrant against counter/control-strategies; Search for Azcanta / Azcanta, the Sunken Ruin in control decks; Ripjaw Raptor and Merfolk Branchwalker in green midrange; Siren Stormtamer in a potential Pirate aggro deck in the style of Faeries; Spell Swindle as a one- or two-of in control decks, possibly including other pirates; Rampaging Ferocidon as red aggro support; Ruin Raider for a black aggro deck; Vraska's Contempt as an all-around answer; Lightning Strikefor anyting red that doesn't want all four Abrade; Opt and Spell Pierce for basically all blue decks; Duress for sideboards; and Regisaur Alpha for red-green and/or Temur midrange.”
