The new Limited format had been around for several weeks at this point. Initial impressions were formed, and of course reformed. We wanted to know: What surprised you the most in Dominaria Limited? Any cards/effects/archetypes you overrated or underrated?
Here's what some notable players answered …
Arne Huschenbeth, Standard champion of MKMS Hamburg 2017 and winner of GP Rimini 2016: “Grow from the Ashes looks okay, but is actually very good. Ghitu Chronicler looked good to begin with, but it has actually been great.”
Thoralf “Toffel” Severin, veteran of two MKM Series Top 8s and three GP Top 8s: “Divest and The Eldest Reborn are underrated, legendary sorceries are overrated. I was surprised by how irrelevant Goblins are.”
Philipp Krieger, WMC semifinalist and veteran of three MKM Series Top 8s: “I love ‘Pilzanbau'!—which is the excellent German name for Fungal Plots.”
Jamin Kauf, veteran of two MKM Series Top 8s: “I went into the format expecting a lot of curveouts, but was suprised by how slow and synergetic it played. Oftentimes a card's powerlevel depends a lot on your deck as a whole, and that makes for interesting decisions rather than ‘I'll play the best 23 cards in my pool.' Something I've seen done too much is ‘historic decks.' You don't draft around The Antiquities War for example, you build your deck and if you happen to have enough artifacts, you add it along with those other two barely playable artifacts.”
