The past couple of months were exciting times, with a bunch of developments changing the face of the Modern world. Deck diversity's as high as ever. We asked some notable players what they considered to be the most underrated deck in Modern at the moment. And why is it better than people realize?

Philipp Krieger, national champion, WMC semifinalist, and Power 8 leader: “Sultai, because it's a grinding Rock.”

Usama Sajjad, champion of Grand Prix Bologna 2018: “Hardened Scales. I wouldn't say it's underrated, but it's not played enough. The deck has a very fast combo kill and also an incredible grind potential.”

Nicklas Krull, Modern champion of Cardmarket Series Hamburg 2018 and Power 8 member: “Amulet Titan. For one thing, everyone is talking about and preparing for KCI. Amulet Titan is kind of flying under the radar. Two, Amulet Titan seems incredibly difficult to play, compared to other Modern decks at least. People who want to win badly and invest time into mastering a complex deck rather pick up the arguably better KCI instead.”

Michael Schlegel, Power 8 player: “Grixis Shadow. I still believe it's the premier tempo deck in the format.”

Felix Bolland, Power 8 player: “Maybe Lantern Control. In theory a lot of the tier one decks lose to Ensnaring Bridge. Although they are probably too fast for Lantern, I'd say the deck is underrated right now, alongside my pet deck, Counters Company, of course.”

Wenzel Krautmann, champion of Grand Prix Warsaw 2013 and CEO Three for One Trading: “Infect is faster than most combo decks in the format! Our last Cardmarket Series Trial in our store in Vienna was also won by Infect.”
