Welcome to the third stop of the Cardmarket Series in beautiful Paris. We’re in the same venue, but we’ve reserved more space to make room for the massively increased attendance. Let’s check in on one of our top-performing formats – Legacy!

Legacy has always been a favorite at our series, and it’s been feeling the new War of the Spark Planeswalkers just as much as Modern. Narset, Parter of Veils is of particular note, pushing the already powerful Miracles deck to new heights as an Azcanta / Leovold hybrid that’s less color restrictive. Check back through Sunday night and into Monday morning for our metagame breakdown, player profiles, Top 8 decklists, and, of course, our stream, which will start Sunday afternoon and run through the end of Legacy Top 8.

Metagame Breakdown

Wow… what a spread we have. This is one of the most balanced Legacy metagames we’ve seen at the Cardmarket Series. No single deck represented more than 9% of the field, and Death and Taxes was the only deck that managed that feat with 19 players choosing to tax their opponents. Don’t let Delver’s slice of the pie fool you into thinking it was the “most represented,” as it’s the combination of U/R, Grixis, and R/U/G Delver decks. U/R took the plurality among the delver decks with 11 players, while Grixis Delver had 9 and R/U/G Delver had 5.

After that, we had Grixis Control, which managed 16 players, Stoneblade which managed 14, and Show and Tell decks, which were the most popular combo deck with 11 players. Miracles underperformed by our standards, managing only 9 players, which is rather low for the Cardmarket series. Most people chose Stoneforge Mystic over Terminus it seems. Aggro Loam managed to get 8 pilots, while Infect, Dredge, ANT, Eldrazi Aggro, and Lands all managed to secure 6 spots. Elves and Goblins both scraped into our named spots with 5, which brings us to a rather sizable Other category.

30% of the field fell into our other category, meaning all decks with 4 or fewer pilots. Among these, Bomberman, 12 (or 15) Post, Mono-Red Stompy, and Food Chain all fell just short of the cut at 4 pilots. Painter’s Servant, Maverick, Slow Depths, Burn, and Steel Stompy managed 3 suitors. Our fringe decks, securing only one or two pilots were numerous, from Dragon decks to U/B Trix to Phoenix decks to more conventional choices like Nic Fit. It would take far too long to list them all. In the end, this meta was as varied as the night sky and only bodes well for the future of Legacy.
