Metagame Breakdown

Modern Main Events don’t often see decks representing much more than 10% of the Metagame, and the Cardmarket Series hasn’t seen a Modern event with a “dominant” archetype in a while, but we had one here in Paris. W/U/x decks were everywhere with 15% of players choosing a W/U/x variant. Most of these were straight W/U control with the new Narset, Parter of Veils, but we did have one Esper, one Jeskai, and a handful of W/U midrange variants. These were mostly straight B/G decks, but we did have some Jund and Sultai decks. Tron, Humans, and Phoenix decks all took up 6% of the meta, while Death’s Shadow and Dredge fell slightly short of that mark, taking 5%. Robots, Burn, and Storm were popular as well, with a 4% share. Robots, as we’re now calling them, consisted mostly of Hardened Scales players, with a handful of standard Affinity players joining. Vizier Combo and Valakut decks managed to secure 3% shares and Spirits, Infect, 4C Whir, and Amulet Titan (featuring Karn, the Great Creator) managed to sneak into our chart with 2% of the meta.

W/U/x decks may have had a lot of representation today, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t have a healthy supply of decks in our Others section, which made up 24% of our meta. Martyr Proc did pretty well, with three representatives, as did Ad Nauseam, with four players. Several new brews, from the new Neoform deck to the fringe, grindy Wilderness Reclamation deck featuring Mystical Teachings, also had at least one representative here in Paris. 8-Rack, featuring the new Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage, also had three players, with Davriel offering more racks and discard spells all in one card.
