Welcome to the third stop of the Cardmarket Series in beautiful Paris. We’re in the same venue, but we’ve reserved more space to make room for the massively increased attendance. Let’s check in on Magic’s flagship constructed format – Standard!

Standard has shifted considerably since War of the Spark, becoming dominated by powerful, high-value Planeswalkers that slot nicely into a variety of midrange decks. Cards like Ugin, the Ineffable and Narset, Parter of Veils dominate, offering incredible value to any deck that can run them. Will they continue to overperform? Metagame Breakdown

The scorching heat of this early summer weekend in Paris found itself mirrored in players' choice of weapons. Naturally, the most popular deck in Standard was the one that burns. But Command the Dreadhorde variants, the polar opposite, weren't that far behind. In fact, overall, grindy midrange strategies dominated the metagame.

Two decks stood out—and stood apart from this general trend. Various notable players like Pro Tour champion Remi Fortier and MPL member Jean-Emmanuel Depraz had mentioned Izzet Phoenix as a rising star in our interview. This weekend Arclight Phoenix claimed an impressive metagame share of 11.6%.

A much less expected rising star turned out to be Feather, the Redeemed. The angel showed up a lot, charging into battle alongside Dreadhorde Arcanist and Tenth District Legionnaire on lots of tables.

Planeswalkers, be warned. Standard seems to be getting a little more aggressive.
