New year; new series! To commemorate this, we’ve re-branded and are now the Cardmarket Series, or CM Series for short, lest we wish to masquerade as content management systems. Additionally, we’re welcoming Vintage back into our Main Event line-up! But we’re here to talk about a different format.

Legacy has always been a favorite at our series and it’s seemingly settled a bit since Deathrite Shaman was banned. Will our tournament show off some cool new decks? We hope so, but at the very least we’re expecting quite a few Lands pilots to make their presence known, as we’re in Italy, land of cheap(er) The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vales. Check back through Sunday night and into Monday morning for our metagame breakdown, player profiles, Top 8 decklists, and, of course, our stream, which will start in the afternoon and run through the end of Legacy Top 8.

Metagame Breakdown

Legacy was a slightly less diverse field than we’ve been used too lately, but it was by no means stagnant. Miracles took the lion’s share with 12% of the field choosing to put their faith in Terminus. Death & Taxes remains ever popular among our Legacy Legionnaires, taking the 2nd spot with 10% of the field. Death & Taxes was particularly notable for having a good mix of standard D&T, Red & Taxes, and even people trying to port the Eldrazi & Taxes build from Modern into Legacy.

Show and Tell players were also out in force, making up the most popular combo archetype at 9% of the meta. They were split down the middle between Sneak & Show variants and OmniShow variants. Delver had a 7% stake in the meta, with the majority going to U/R builds and the remainder evenly split between BUG and Grixis builds. Grixis Control placed significantly behind Miracles, but still managed 6% of the field. ANT, Eldrazi, U/B Shadow, and Lands all secured 5% of the field. As was expected, this was a strong showing for Lands here in Italy. Stoneblade performed surprisingly poorly, for our events at least, with only 4% of the field choosing it.

Our others category was slightly smaller than usual, with 14% of the field falling into that category. Some notable decks in our others category were 12-Post, Slivers, Aggro Loam, and Charbelcher.
