New year; new series! To commemorate this, we’ve rebranded and are now the Cardmarket Series, or CM Series for short, lest we wish to masquerade as content management systems. Additionally, we’re welcoming Vintage back into our Main Event line-up! But we’re here to talk about a different format.

Oh… Guilds of Ravnica Standard… it’s been a wild ride. This will be the last GRN Standard Main Event at the Cardmarket Series and the format has proven varied and exciting. This will be a great send off to one of the greatest Standard formats to ever grace the game. Metagame Breakdown

Our last Guilds of Ravnica Standard Main Event was dominated by Golgari Midrange, which took a whopping 33% share of the meta. A few players splashed white, but the majority played straight black-green. Izzet Drakes and Jeskai Control are next with 20% and 13% respectively. They also complete the list of decks with more than 10% of the meta. 25% of our Jeskai players played the Nexus variant for those wondering how the recent addition to the control archetype panned out here.

Mono-Red Aggro took an 8% share, with Selesnya Tokens and White Weenie taking 5%. A smattering of decks ended up taking 3% of the meta, from Mono-Black Control to an Izzet archetype relying on Thousand-Year Storm. Overall, as is common at our tournaments, players favored more interactive decks rather than the more popular aggro decks.

We can’t wait to see how this picture changes with the addition of Ravnica Allegiance in Ghent!
