The biggest story leading up to the tournament was of course the recent banning of Sensei's Divining Top, which shook the format to its foundations and left many players scrambling for replacements or adjustments. In total, 437 players entered the Legacy main event of MKM Series Frankfurt 2017 to fight for fame, glory, and a grand prize of €1,500 in MagicCardMarket.eu credit.

Eight different deck archetypes made it to the playoffs, five combo decks alongside Grixis Delver, Aggro Loam, and Stoneblade. The combo decks proceeded to weed out the others, and in the end it was former Miracles player Johannes Gutbrod, using Sneak Attack/Show and Tell, who finished his second Top 8 at the MKM Series with a win.

Metagame Breakdown

Take a look at the breakdown of the decks in our Legacy main event at the MKM Series Frankfurt 2017. 437 players came to play with the original dual lands today. Miracles had just been banned into oblivion, creating a giant hole in the metagame. Players primarily put their trust in Delver and Show and Tell variants, with Death & Taxes, Stoneblade, Elves, and Storm following closely behind. The former borders between Stoneforge Mystic and BUG decks were starting to blur, as players tried to integrate the best of both worlds into their decks. Obviously, fast creature decks needed to fight with combo decks today to determine which decks would be the dominant force in the new Legacy.

We registered 44 different archetypes overall, so obviously we had to cut the list short somewhere, but you might just find some of the less played archetypes like Merfolk, Goblins, Aluren and so on (106 decks in total) in the Top 8 decklist section later.
