It's the first stop of the MagicCardMarket Series in 2016 and this time we're in beautiful Milan in Italy. We will start off the weekend with our Vintage main event.
Back in December at the MKM Series Madrid we saw Oscar Basart take home the title in the Vintage main event with Storm Combo. Since then Storm and Shops have been praised multiple times during the Vintage Super League as the best two decks in the format. Will we see those two decks dominate the field today as well, or will some of the blue decks be able to stop them?
I suspect that an Oath of Druids version might be the best choice to do that, as it can load up on Storm hate, while keeping a decent matchup against Workshops more easily than some of the other blue decks. It doesn't rely on casting a bunch of cantrips as much as Mentor, Pyromancer or Doomsday decks do – which can be very important when facing cost increasing effects, like Sphere of Resistance. The ability to potentially deploy your “relevant threat” on turn one is huge as well. Mikael Linden used Oath of Druids to take down our event in Prague, so maybe it is time for a return? Or will we find some new and exciting secret tech ready to take the event while scouring the deck lists?

33 players registered for the Vintage main event today. A surprisingly low attendance given the prize payout of the event. What surprised me even more though, were the deck lists of the players. Only four players opted for decks based on Mishra's Workshop, with two of them trying to creatively reinvent the archetype. We will try to do a deck feature with one of those players later. The complete absence of Storm decks is especially surprising after the results we saw in Madrid. One player indeed brought an Oath deck, which I suggested as one of the better blue decks for the expexted metagame. It will be interesting to see whether that deck can deal with the unexpected field as well. Here is today's breakdown:
