73 players had entered the Standard main event here in Prague at the fifth and final stop of the MKM Series 2016. After seven rounds of Swiss play and the quarterfinals, four players remained and shared the top honors and the 1,650 Euro prize pool for the Top 4.

Two-time MKM Series champion Eliott Boussaud made it with his take on Red-White Aggro, GP finalist Jan Ksandr proved the strength of Aetherworks Marvel, Dominik Prosek reached the Top 4 with Mardu Vehicles, and GP semifinalist Jiří Obraz completed the line-up with Black-Green Delirium.

In the end, Ksandr, after coming in second place at Grand Prix Sydney earlier this year, was chosen to hoist the trophy. Congratulations go to all four of them of course!

Metagame Breakdown

It was a close race here at the MKM Series Prague 2016's Standard event. Over the last couple of months, Black-Green Delirium had steadily climbed in popularity and almost caught up with the frontrunner White-Blue Flash. The battle between the two literally couldn't have been any closer without being even, but White-Blue remained on top, if only barely.

Surprisingly, however, White-Blue and Black-Green didn't command a big lead over the others and only accounted for about 14 percent of the field each. Meanwhile, both combo and aggro decks were out in full force: Aetherworks Marvel and Dynavolt Tower decks were well represented, as were Black-Red Aggro and Red-Green Energy Aggro.

Among the control decks, Jeskai and White-Black were the most popular, but Grixis, Esper, Blue-Black, and White-Blue were all color combinations that people had chosen too. The “Others” were mostly comprised of these, with a pair of Fevered Visions players and a pair of Green-White Beatdown players thrown in for good measure. One-ofs included White Weenie, Red-Green Ramp, a black/colorless Eldrazi deck, and a Panharmonicon brew.
