Frontier is an unofficial Constructed format which allows cards from Magic 2015 and Khans of Tarkir onward. It is similar to Modern in that it uses a change in card frame (the modern day decreased border size, holofoil stamp, and revamped collector info) as a distinguishing feature.

The format gained traction in 2016 when Frontier tournaments popped up all over the globe and various articles and websites touted Frontier as one of the most balanced and rewarding formats yet. Whereas Modern has to deal with a sprawling list of banned cards, Frontier's big advantage is that it is commonly considered not to need a banned list at all!
