Legacy allows cards from all tournament legal sets, all the way back to the game's very beginnings. Legacy is characterized by very low mana costs, by games decided on the stack rather than on the battlefield, by combos and synergies, by efficient library manipulation and powerful disruption.

In addition to ante cards and manual dexterity cards, only the most powerful cards, considered to be too powerful for fair games, are banned in Legacy, allowing a glimpse into the history of Magic: The Gathering.
