Metagame Breakdown

As one might expect, W/U/x control was one of the decks of choice at the CM Series Paris Standard Main Event. It managed 20% of the meta, tying with Mono-Red Aggro, so we’ve got both sides of the spectrum covered. U/G/x Ramp was also favored, managing 13% of the meta. Nissa Who Shakes the World has been a force since her release and I wouldn’t expect her to go anywhere as long as she’s legal in Standard, especially when Wizard’s prints support like Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath. Aristocats, Jeskai Fires, and Temur Reclamation were next up, all managing between five and six percent of the metagame. Aristocats, as expected, mostly consisted of the B/R variant, but a couple players liked Jund more for the event.

Unlike most events, we didn’t actually have an “Others” category in Paris. All of the archetypes that showed up at our tournament fit on our chart, so you get the full picture for once. Doom Foretold had a couple die-hard fans sticking to it, along with U/R Flash, G/W Auras, Gruul Aggro, and Mono-Black Devotion. B/G Midrange, U/G Flash, Esper Hero, and Grixis Bolas each had one pilot testing the waters, but overall, the Standard Meta seemed surprisingly static for our events. People pretty much stuck to the best decks and weren’t really testing the waters like they do at most of our events. We’ll have to see if that keeps up in the other events and moving forward this year.
