On the eve of MKM Series Prague, it was once again time for us to follow long-standing tradition and to review what happened last time at the MKM Series. Nine weeks ago, players from all over Europe gathered in Hamburg for the third stop of the MKM Series 2018,...

Metagame Breakdown

While Red-Black Chainwhirler remained atop the Standard metagame, even here the influence of M19 could be seen. One of the Chainwhirler decks included Sarkhan, Fireblood and splashed Nicol Bolas, the Ravager // Nicol Bolas, the Arisen.

Steel Leaf Stompy also picked up a new toy in Vine Mare, and the new Dragon // planeswalker also single-handedly put Grixis back on the map. Further changes to the Standard landscape included Stitcher's Supplier making its way into all the God-Pharaoh's Gift decks.

Possibly the biggest news, however, concerned the red decks other than R/B Chainwhirler. With the addition of Lightning Strike and more importantly Viashino Pyromancer, most of these decks now tended toward proper Burn, focusing on direct rather than combat damage! That Wizard's Lightning found another Wizard in this lizard changed the math quite dramatically!
