Legacy Coverage MKM Series Prague 2016

Event Coverage of the MKM Series Milan

After 16 weeks of hibernation the MagicCardMarket Series is back and takes the first stop of the MKM Series 2017 to Milan in Italy. One of the great events here in Milan will be the Legacy main event. The format consists of the most powerful cards in Magic’s history and a great diversity of archetypes.

Back in November 2016 at the MKM Series Prague Miracles was the most played deck followed by Sneak & Show and Death & Taxes. If we wouldn’t have separated all Delver variants by their color combinations, we would have had a different leading archetype in the metagame breakdown. The diversity of the format was also represented in the Top 8 with seven different archetypes. We saw two totally different angles of Legacy decks that met in the finals– Angelo Cadei’s Miracles deck and a Lands deck from Alexander Beiersdorfer. It was the power of blue cards like Counterbalance and Jace, the Mind Sculptor, which ensured Angelo Cadei the trophy.

What will happen in Milan?

Although the last Banned an Restricted Announcement brought no changes to the format, some things have happened since MKMS Prague. Reid Duke and his innovative Sultai deck with a potential turn two Leovold, Emissary of Trest or True-Name Nemesis took the trophy of Grand Prix Louisville. This new Sultai list has yet to replicate its success in Europe. But besides that new deck, Fatal Push entered the Legacy format. A cheap and efficient removal for one black mana will change the meta. Delver decks able to cast Fatal Push will likely do it. On the other hand Creatures which can ignore common removal like Lightning Bolt, Abrupt Decay and Fatal Push will appear in some decks. Here in Milan it might also be the case that player’s will continue playing top decks like Miracles or decks that don’t care about that kind of removal like BR Reanimator or Storm.

Stay tuned for the latest updates in Europe’s Legacy scene and great matches with Magic’s most powerful cards here at the MagicCardMarket Series in Milan!

Congratulations to Marius Hausmann, Who Proved to Be on Top of the Legacy Food Chain in Milan!

Metagame Breakdown

Take a look at the breakdown of the decks in our Legacy main event at the MKM Series Milan 2017. 134 players came to play with the original dual lands today. Miracles was the most played deck with 14 copies in the field, but only if you separate all B/U/G variants by their main focal points. Leovold is the newest focal point, but there are lots of Shardless, Aluren, Food Chain, and regular Delver variants as well – adding up to a massive 32 Sultai decks. Death & Taxes comes in third with 8 pilots choosing that strategy, with Reanimator, Eldrazi, Elves, Storm, Show & Tell, and Lands following closely behind.

We registered 33 different archetypes overall, so obviously we had to cut the list short somewhere, but you may find some of the less played archetypes like Dredge, Burn, Painter Combo and so on (57 decks in total) in the Top8 decklist section later.
